CADET UNIT #1096
Are you 14 – 20 years old and interested in a career in the law enforcement field? Are you civic-minded,
enjoy spending time with friends, and are looking for opportunities to give back to your community?
Come join our Public Safety Cadets!
The Public Safety Cadet program is a nationwide program for young men and women ages 14 through
20. The program prepares young adults for careers and leadership in the public safety professions. The
mission of the Public Safety Cadet program is to mentor young adults to serve their communities by
providing knowledge, skills and practical experiences. This is done through education and training
delivered by public safety professionals that helps the Cadet develop character, physical fitness, and
respect for the rule of law and human and civil rights.
Through their involvement in the program, youth members (Cadets), develop an awareness of the
purpose, mission and objectives of public safety organizations. Through the support of the Lake in the
Hills Police Department, dedicated police officers provide guidance, education and training to the
Cadets.
The Cadet Unit receives instruction, as well as hands-on experience from the officers in various areas of
leadership during meetings on select Thursdays throughout the month, all year round. The Unit also
learns through observance during ride-alongs with the patrol division.
During the year, the Unit assists the police department by volunteering at many community events,
assisting with traffic control and management, staffing informational booths, crime prevention
education.
The Cadet Program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of
law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism. Members wear a police-style uniform bearing the
department’s patch and Public Safety Cadet patch.
Meetings are on select Thursdays from 6-9pm at the Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal
Lake Road.
